Time for Romance

I couldn’t let February, the month of St. Valentine, pass without taking the time for a little romance. So here are a few fashionable moments from a very favorite photo shoot in Huntington Gardens with my very special someone. Get ready for some romance. ;)

You’ll find Huntington Gardens located in San Marino, California, has all the grandeur of Europe, Asia and even the high desert all rolled into one with picturesque gardens, sculptures, fountains and art galleries. It’s somewhere I now like to visit regularly when creativity calls and I’m looking for inspiration to style, shoot and write.

This time I was lucky enough to catch American artist Kehinde Wiley,  A Portrait of a Young Gentleman,  a painting inspired by and hung alongside Thomas Gainsborough’s iconic painting The Blue Boy.  To see a modern L.A. artist displayed across from a classical 16th century painting was truly breathtaking and inspiring.

While I didn’t have to travel far from my home in L.A to the Gardens it felt right to play a little at dressing up while feeling at ease to walk and explore. So I grabbed a favorite go-to this season, a sweater dress from French brand Sézane, and paired  it with a black croc-printed leather circle bag and contrasting brown leather boots and added a fun twist with a  leopard, handkerchief tied at the neck. And then I let the grandeur of the gardens do the rest! I think this shoot showed me how a classic, streamlined silhouette can feel timeless and elevated with the right accessories.  And that while sometimes fashion can be loud, sometimes subdued elegant details speak volumes.

Here’s your reminder to embrace opportunities to travel and explore and take moments for yourself to dress up as acts of pampering and self-care during these slower times when we’ve all been staying a little closer to home. If you are looking for more ideas and tips on styling, I'd love to hear from you. Shoot me an email, reach out on insta or comment here, I’d be glad to help!
