A Sweater & Jeans Update

It’s January, so out with the old, in with the new. Which means I’m using this month to refresh my everyday look come wintertime, aka jeans and a sweater on repeat, with a few fresh takes on the OOTD.  In my last post, where I began my sweater season overhaul, I paired my favorite cozy sweater with some animal print pants for an instant update. This time your formula is sweater + jeans, 2.0.

SHOP THE LOOK: STATEMENT SWEATERS & JEANS

It may seem like simple math: cold weather equals a sweater, and just add jeans.  But maybe you live somewhere, like L.A., with back-and-forth temperatures that when it comes to getting dressed keep you guessing. Or, where day-in, day-out it’s cold and easy to fall into a rut. Last year I learned how to navigate Sweater Weather in L.A. experiencing my first full winter season after moving here. And moving from New York I came with lots of sweater “baggage.” And so I can be picky about buying many new ones. But bright colors and statement sleeves are two trends that were just too tempting to pass up this year.  Put on a bright knit in winter and it’s like a shot of Vitamin D to your wardrobe. On-trend details like balloon and Dolman sleeves make the look current and crop cuts that play with proportion by adding contrasting elements like extra long bell sleeves for instance are pure fun and just accentuate the cozy. Some of my favorite sweaters this season are from brands like And Other Stories, Reformation, Doen, A.L.C., Tibi and Alexander Wang.

I love the vibrant lavender color of this puff-sleeve sweater by Eleven Six and l opted to wear my hair up to highlight the shoulder detail. My GRLFRND Denim jeans are cropped with a slightly frayed ankle and a shadow back-pocket detail and my favorite white boots are by Schutz and the bag is by Mansur Gavriel. I love a white boot in winter because it can feel unexpected and eye-catchingly fresh. Shop the Statement Sweaters with Jeans look for yourself above and in my #OOTD Shop. Up next, soft sweaters take on some edge with a fashion-forward outfit that let’s you try on more of the latest trends. You don’t want to miss it!
